Projet lauréat du concours organisé par la Croix-Rouge Luxembourgeoise en février 2019.
Au-delà de la réponse rationnelle et de la recherche d’efficacité, le projet est guidé par des thématiques qui s’articulent autour de 5 points:
- La Croix-Rouge est une « Maison » : cadre vital pour les hommes, protégeant des aléas du monde extérieur et offrant les commodités indispensables à leur dignité, le projet est conçu comme un refuge et un lieu de rassemblement.
- Le rapport entre les différents espaces : ceux-ci génèrent et favorisent les échanges, rapprochent les communautés et améliorent le bien-être des occupants et visiteurs.
- Les parcours : ceux-ci relient les différents espaces et produisent surprises et découvertes. L’espace vit!
- La présence du végétal : élément qui apporte sérénité et apaisement.
- L’insertion urbaine : la « Maison Croix-Rouge » est inscrite dans la cité et est identifiable sans être ostentatoire.
Notre proposition s’appuie, en termes de forme, de matériaux et d’articulations, sur ces thématiques:
- La façade extérieure se déploie telle une enceinte protectrice. Au centre de ce volume, constitué principalement de briques (matériau par définition à caractère « domestique »), comme découpé dans la masse, un large et lumineux « foyer » distribue l’ensemble des services.
- L’accès à la « Maison Croix-Rouge » est disposé sur l’angle du bâtiment, face au futur piétonnier menant à la nouvelle gare. Ce grand porche, s’ouvrant comme une invitation par une diagonale, présente deux échelles distinctes. La première, dans le plan de la façade, correspond à l’échelle de la cité. Sans être monumentale, elle est clairement identifiable et reconnaissable.

Beyond the rational response and the search for efficiency, the project is guided by themes that are articulated around 5 points:
- The Red Cross is a "House": a vital framework for people, protecting them from the hazards of the outside world and offering the amenities essential to their dignity, the project is conceived as a refuge and a place of gathering.
- The relationship between the different spaces: these generate and promote exchanges, bring communities together and improve the well-being of the occupants and visitors
- The routes: these link the different spaces and produce surprises and discoveries.
- The presence of vegetation: an element that brings serenity and calm
- Urban insertion: the "Red Cross House" is part of the city and is identifiable without being ostentatious
Our proposal is based on these themes in terms of form, materials and articulation:
- The exterior façade unfolds like a protective enclosure. In the centre of this volume, mainly made of bricks (a material that is by definition "domestic"), as if cut out of the mass, a large and luminous "foyer" distributes all the services.
- The access to the "Red Cross House" is located on the corner of the building, facing the future pedestrian walkway leading to the new station.
This large porch, opening up like an invitation by a diagonal, presents two distinct scales. The first, in the plane of the façade, corresponds to the scale of the city.
Without being monumental, it is clearly identifiable and recognisable.

Naast het rationele antwoord en het zoeken naar efficiëntie, wordt het project geleid door thema's die rond 5 punten zijn gegroepeerd:
- Het Rode Kruis is een "Huis": een vitaal kader voor mensen, dat hen beschermt tegen de gevaren van de buitenwereld en de voorzieningen biedt die essentieel zijn voor hun waardigheid, het project is opgevat als een toevluchtsoord en een plaats van samenkomst.
- De relaties tussen de verschillende ruimtes: deze genereren en bevorderen uitwisselingen, brengen gemeenschappen samen en verbeteren het welzijn van de bewoners en bezoekers
- De routes: deze verbinden de verschillende ruimtes en zorgen voor verrassingen en ontdekkingen.
- De aanwezigheid van vegetatie: een element dat sereniteit en rust brengt
- Stedelijke integratie: het "Rode Kruis Huis" maakt deel uit van de stad en is herkenbaar zonder opzichtig te zijn
Ons voorstel is gebaseerd op deze thema's in termen van vorm, materialen en geleding:
- De buitengevel ontvouwt zich als een beschermende omhulling. In het midden van dit volume, dat voornamelijk uit baksteen bestaat (een materiaal dat per definitie "huiselijk" is), als uit de massa gesneden, verdeelt een grote en lichtgevende "foyer" alle diensten.
- De toegang tot het "Rode Kruis Huis" bevindt zich op de hoek van het gebouw, tegenover de toekomstige voetgangersgang naar het nieuwe station.
Dit grote portaal, dat zich als een uitnodiging via een diagonaal opent, presenteert twee verschillende schalen.
De eerste, in het vlak van de gevel, komt overeen met de schaal van de stad. Zonder monumentaal te zijn, is het duidelijk herkenbaar en herkenbaar.
Dans un deuxième temps, le porche se réduit, offrant un passage « transitoire » plus intimiste avant que ne se dévoile la grande hauteur du foyer.
- Le foyer atrium :
Véritable coeur de l’édifice, il est le lieu de convergence de toutes les activités et de toutes les circulations. Sa configuration favorise de multiples opportunités de rencontres, de repos ou de travail dans un cadre accueillant et lumineux.
- Le jardin - patio :
Prolongeant l’atrium, un patio agrémenté de plantations s’ouvre vers la forêt toute proche. Ces plantations sont denses ou clairsemées suivant les fonctions périphériques quelles protègent ou dévoilent.
- La pergola :
La structure portante de la verrière, composée de plats métalliques thermolaqués blancs reflétant la lumière, se prolonge au-dessus du patio extérieur, unifiant virtuellement les deux espaces. Cette pergola, si elle procure un sentiment d’abri rassurant, protège également la façade intérieure, fortement vitrée, du soleil.
Le bâtiment proposé se veut simple, non ostentatoire et intemporel. Les matériaux extérieurs sont sobres : brique, aluminium, verre clair…, nécessitant peu d’entretien et durables.
Au niveau de l’organisation intérieure, tout est fait pour que les usagers se sentent bien dans un environnement serein, baigné de lumière, bénéficiant de vues vers l’extérieur et permettant les rencontres et échanges.
La livraison est prévue pour 2026.
In a second phase, the porch becomes smaller, offering a more intimate "transitional" passage before the great height of the foyer is revealed.
- The foyer atrium: the heart of the building, it is the place where all activities and all traffic converge.
- The garden - patio: Extending from the atrium, a patio with plantings opens onto the nearby forest.
- The pergola: The supporting structure of the glass roof, composed of white powder-coated metal plates reflecting the light, extends over the outside patio, virtually unifying the two spaces.
This pergola, while providing a reassuring sense of shelter, also protects the heavily glazed interior facade from the sun.
The proposed building is simple, unostentatious and timeless. The exterior materials are sober: brick, aluminium, clear glass, etc., requiring little maintenance and durable.
As for the interior organisation, everything is done so that users feel good in a serene environment, bathed in light, benefiting from views to the outside and allowing meetings and exchanges.
In een tweede fase wordt het portaal verkleind en biedt het een intiemere "overgangsdoorgang" voordat de grote hoogte van de foyer wordt onthuld.
- Het atrium van de foyer: het hart van het gebouw, de plaats waar alle activiteiten en al het verkeer samenkomen.
- De tuin - patio: In het verlengde van het atrium ligt een patio met beplanting die uitkomt op het nabijgelegen bos.
- De pergola: De dragende structuur van het glazen dak, samengesteld uit witte gepoedercoate metalen platen die het licht reflecteren, strekt zich uit over de buitenpatio, waardoor de twee ruimten virtueel worden verenigd. Deze pergola geeft een geruststellend gevoel van beschutting en beschermt tevens de sterk beglaasde binnengevel tegen de zon.
Het voorgestelde gebouw is eenvoudig, onopvallend en tijdloos. De buitenmaterialen zijn sober: baksteen, aluminium, helder glas, enz., die weinig onderhoud vergen en duurzaam zijn.
Wat de binneninrichting betreft, is alles zo gedaan dat de gebruikers zich goed voelen in een serene omgeving, badend in het licht, met uitzicht naar buiten en ruimte voor ontmoetingen en uitwisselingen.
